Communication Statement:
I am a science communicator with nearly a decade of experience working across museums, parks, and zoos of varying sizes and settings. With an academic background in biology and informal education, I’ve designed and delivered programming for diverse communities across rural Minnesota and Ohio, southern Indiana, urban Massachusetts, and rural western Washington. I continue to seek new ways of engaging new audiences with the intent of deepening connections between people and place.
I strive to use techniques that encourage everyone to engage with science in hands-on ways. I am well-versed in adapting to the varied ages, knowledge levels, and backgrounds of both large and small groups and in incorporating primary research, authentic artifacts/bio-facts, and live animals (when possible & relevant).
In today’s world, science feels like a polarizing force, unearthing differences and pulling people apart. But when I think about science - evolution, energy webs, and climate change - what I see are relationships. Science, to me, is a way of understanding how we are all connected—to one another and to the landscapes that sustain us. I am passionate about helping people recognize these connections, and about creating opportunities that inspire the careful stewardship of the reciprocal relationships that exist all around us.
